DENTON, TX (03/25/2014) — 68-year-old truck driver Mike Jensen, of Fort Worth, was severely injured in a Tuesday morning rollover truck accident on Interstate 35 near Highway 380.
UPDATE (04/08/2014): The victim in this accident, Mike Jensen, has passed away from his injuries. Police are still looking for the driver of the 2nd tractor trailer.
The 5:30 a.m. accident occurred on northbound I-35, just north of Highway 380 (University Drive), when a tanker truck (carrying an estimated 48,000 pounds of baking flour) tried to maneuver past a disabled tractor trailer which was blocking all lanes of northbound traffic on I-35.
As Mr. Jensen drove around the right side of the (possibly jackknifed) truck, his passenger-side tires sank into the ditch and caused the 18-wheeler to roll onto its side. The driver, Mike Jensen, was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
The tanker truck is owned by Spur Transit Inc. out of Saginaw, Texas. Mr. Jensen was transporting the flour to Marietta, Oklahoma when the accident occurred.
UPDATE: The 18-wheeler that was blocking the road did not remain at the scene. Witnesses described the truck as having a red tractor cab and a white box trailer, according to a news release issued by the Denton Police Department.
Police are asking anyone who was on I-35 on Tuesday who might be able to describe the truck in more detail or who know why the truck was blocking traffic, to call the Denton Police Department Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer at 940-349-7851.
