SAN ANGELO, TX (06/25/2015) — Sgt. Korby Kennedy of the San Angelo Police Department was killed after his patrol motorcycle was struck by a Nissan Rogue.
San Angelo Police have confirmed that Sgt. Korby Kennedy—a San Angelo Police Officer and a leader of the San Angelo Coalition of Police—was killed after his motorcycle was struck by an SUV on Knickerbocker Road at Albert Street in San Angelo, Texas.
According to authorities, shortly after 6:00 p.m., Kennedy’s patrol motorcycle was among several patrol officers who were escorting a line of drag boats (pulled on trailers) from Lake Nasworthy to the Twin Peaks Restaurant (a boat race sponsor) on Knickerbocker Road.
At the Albert Street intersection, a Nissan Rogue pulled out of private drive and struck Kennedy while he was riding his motorcycle.
Kennedy was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. at Shannon Medical Center.
“It’s a sad day for the SAPD and our community. We lost an officer and a very close friend. Someone who I would consider a brother,” Police Chief Tim Vasquez said.
According to Vasquez, the passenger of the Rogue was also injured, but he does not believe the injuries were major.
