Last night a 14-year-old boy was killed and a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured in a single car accident on I-35 South near Valley View. The car was being driven by Joab Sanchez Felipe when the SUV’s rear tire blew. Felipe’s SUV ran off the road and then rolled down the nearby embankment.
The 14-year-old, Joab Jacinto, was thrown from the car during the accident and died shortly afterwards. The young girl, Amizaraea Felipe was seriously injured in the accident as was the driver. Amizaraea Felipe was taken to Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Neither of the children was wearing a seatbelt. This simple mistake proved catastrophic in light of the accident. Do to the severity of the accident and the injuries if Joab Felipe survives his injuries, he will face criminal charges for allowing the children to go without seatbelts.
Although the vehicle accident itself doesn’t appear to be Joab Felipe’s fault, allowing his most precious cargo to ride unsafely can be a very real form of negligence. The Dallas Police released a statement about pending charges. Spokesman Mark Tackett told the crime blog, “There’s gonna be some [charges] on the father, but we’ve got to wait and see what his condition is. We’re not gonna go get him when he’s half-dead in the hospital.”
