Yesterday morning in Oak Cliff 41-year-old Juan Steele was killed when he was run over twice by two difference vehicles who failed to stop and render aid. The double-hit-and-run fatal accident began when Steele ran after a tow truck that was taking his car from the Oasis Apartments where Steele lived. Steele had just moved into the apartments and neighbors say he had already had his car towed earlier in the week. Steele was shouting and waving his arms as he chased the tow truck which refused to stop. Witnesses and media differ in their reports of what happened next.

One theory is that the tow truck saw Steele and purposely ran over him, pausing afterwards only to check the damage on his vehicle before leaving the scene. Other reports on FOX 4 say that it was possible that Steele jumped onto the truck. He could have sustained his injuries when he fell off and hit his own car which was tacked on to the back.
It is horrible enough that Steele was hit by one car that failed to stop, but it appears that he was actually struck by two vehicles which both left the scene without stopping. Steele was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries. It’s unclear which impact affected Steele the most. Both drivers could face serious charges when the police locate the suspects. Reports from WFAA suggest that the police have spoken with the tow truck driver from Choice Towing who was involved in the accident, but the company itself has not yet commented on the situation. So far it looks like the police have not identified the second driver who hit Steele.

Hit-and-runs as well as pedestrian deaths have been too common lately. This past Sunday Sergio Rodriguez was killed in a hit-and-run along the shoulder of Highway 287 in Fort Worth. Rodriguez was an Everman volunteer firefighter and was only 26-years-old when he was run over.
