NIEDERWALD, TX (01/02/2017) — Olivia Flores and Jose Ortiz-Perez lost their lives in an accident on Monday, which also injured Julianna Flores, Angel Esquivel, Lilia Cruz de Paz, and Julio Deras.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 45-year-old Olivia Madolores Flores (of Dale) was killed in a wrong way accident that occurred on Highway 21 (Camino Real) near FM 2001 in Caldwell County, Texas.
DPS Sgt. Robbie Barrera reported that at around 7:00 p.m., 33-year-old Jose Ortiz-Perez was in a 2000 Nissan Frontier, traveling northbound in the southbound lane of SH 21, when he collided with a southbound 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by Flores.
Neither Flores nor Ortiz-Perez survived the collision.
Two passengers from the Ford—2-year-old Julianna Flores and 46-year-old Angel Duran Esquivel—were taken to hospitals for treatment. Julianna Flores remains in serious condition at Dell Children’s Hospital. Esquivel was treated and released from St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.
The passengers from the Nissan—listed as 36-year-old Lilia Cruz de Paz and 27-year-old Julio Cesar Ramirez Deras (both of Buda)—were also taken to St. David’s for treatment.
An investigation is ongoing.
