Dallas, Texas — A 43-year-old male was injured Monday evening when he was struck and pinned beneath a DART Blue Line light rail train.
According to reports, the man (who has yet to be named) was standing near the end of the Dallas Convention Center station near S. Lamar Street at around 5:00 p.m. Monday (10/21/2013), when he walked onto the tracks and was hit by the oncoming train. Witnesses say the man may have been distracted by a conversation he was having with someone on the platform.
While a full investigation has not taken place, DART spokesman Morgan Lyons says that the crossing lights and bells were operating properly. He also said that “the operator also applied maximum brakes to the train to slow it as much as possible while entering the station.”
Luckily, the man did survive and was taken to Baylor University Medical Center with a possible broken leg, among other injuries. No train passengers were reportedly injured.
While this may seem like a clear case of pedestrian carelessness, you must always remember that no one has all of the facts until a full investigation has been completed. The warning lights may not have been working… A premises condition may have caused the victim to stumble onto the tracks… There are a million factors to consider, and the truth of the matter is we just don’t know the full story yet.
If you’re ever hurt in an incident involving a DART train, have an attorney look into your case. It costs nothing, and it may help you recover the money you need in order to get back on your feet.
