Two police officers were injured in two unrelated wrecks this past week. While most drivers tend to drive more carefully when they see a squad car, there are at least two drivers this week that not only failed to be more cautious, they actually managed to hit police officers.
The first was this past Saturday when an officer stopped to help a bus of post-prom teens that had broken down. The officer and the bus driver were talking outside their vehicles when a pickup crashed into the cop’s car. The squad car, with its flashing lights still on, was pushed right into the officer and bus driver. Both were taken to the hospital, and thankfully none of the injuries were fatal. The police Officer Louster did have severe injuries to his left leg, and has already had surgery.
Just last night, a Wolfe City officer’s leg was broken when he was run over while directing traffic at a construction site. The accident happened around 2:30 am at North Buckner Boulevard and Chennault Street in Dallas. Two male, possibly Hispanic, suspects in a maroon Chevy Tahoe drove through the cones along the construction site and struck the officer. They did not stop to render aide.
If you see a squad car, please drive with extra caution, or you may have more than just a speeding ticket to be worried about.
