HUTCHINS, TX (9/21/2014) — 19-year-old mother Priscilla Alanis has been killed in a car accident Sunday morning caused by a suspected drunk driver.
UPDATE 08/26/2016: A jury has convicted Eustorgio Gomez-Gutierrez of manslaughter. Gomez-Gutierrez faces two to 20 years in prison.
According to reports, 19-year-old Priscilla Alanis had pulled her red Chrysler PT Cruiser over on the shoulder of southbound I-45 (just before Wintergreen) with her emergency lights flashing, when her car was struck from behind by a man driving a Dodge Ram Power Wagon pickup truck at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Priscilla Alanis, who was the sole occupant of her car, was transported to Baylor Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The man who caused the collision has been identified as 24-year-old Eustorgio Gomez-Gutierrez. Gomez-Gutierrez was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. His bond was set at $50,000 and he was bonded out of jail the same day.
Priscilla Alanis lived in Ferris, Texas, and was the mother of a 1-year-old child named Elijah René (Eli). She was a talented athlete who played volleyball for Cedar Valley College and sang in her church band. Alanis’ family says that her older brother was also killed in a car accident several tears ago, and that right now their focus is on her child, Eli.
