LUBBOCK, TX (06/01/2016) — Ramon Ledesma has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash on Wednesday night.
According to police, 55-year-old Ramon Ledesma Jr. was killed in a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the 4100 block of Avenue Q in Lubbock, Texas.
Authorities reported that at around 10:13 p.m., 56-year-old Ricardo Vasquez was traveling northbound in a 2003 Ford Expedition when he struck Ledesma in the street.
Ledesma lost his life at the scene.
Vasquez fled the scene, but was later arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid.
Commentary
Although we’re unsure why the victim was in the street at the time of the accident, we can say that regardless of the reason, the law still states that drivers should yield to pedestrians if at all possible. If this man had stopped and immediately rendered aid, it could have potentially saved the victim’s life. This driver could face additional charges depending upon the results of the investigation.
