FAIRFIELD, TX (07/18/2016) — Rebecca Read was killed in a rollover accident on Monday morning that also left three young women injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 18-year-old Rebecca Read died in a single-vehicle accident that occurred along Interstate 45 in Freestone County, Texas.
DPS reported that at around 9:45 a.m., Read, along with three friends, were traveling southbound on I-45 in a two-door Jeep Wrangler when it began to drift off the highway. The driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll over both lanes of the highway before coming to rest upright.
The four young women in the Wrangler were taken to East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield. Two of the girls were later transferred to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Rebecca Read did not survive. A spokesperson for the hospital reported that Peyton Cates was in stable condition, but did not have information on the other two victims.
“She was singing wherever she went. I would see her in the halls outside of church. She would always have a smile. She was just that person that everybody loved,” said Lexy Pritchard, a friend of Read. “When I saw that they were going on vacation I was like good for them. We’ve graduated and this is something they’re going to do, and I never thought we would lose someone along the way.”
All four of the victims were graduates of Arlington High School, and were reportedly on their way to Galveston at the time of the crash.
