MERETA, TX (06/30/2015) — Santellano Rudolfo, 29, was injured following a high speed, rollover crash caused by 31-year-old Gerod Rockwell.
According to police, 29-year-old Santellano Rudolfo was injured in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of FM 388 and FM 1692 in Mereta, Texas on Tuesday night.
Reports state that a Tom Green County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a Buick LeSabre—driven by 31-year-old Gerod Vincent Rockwell—around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Baker Drive and FM 388 for a minor traffic offense. However, Rockwell refused to stop and evaded the deputy, reportedly reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
At FM 388 and FM 1692, Rockwell lost control of the LeSabre, and the vehicle left the roadway into a ditch at an agricultural field site, before rolling over multiple times.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Rockwell was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle; he died at the scene.
Santellano Rudolfo, Rockwell’s passenger, was partially outside the Buick and was transported to Shannon Medical Center by AirMed1 with unknown injuries.
After the crash, deputies extinguished a fire that started in the car’s engine compartment.
