CLAUDE, TX (05/14/2016) — Ross Rizzo was identified as the victim of a fatal accident involving three vehicles on Saturday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 61-year-old Ross Rizzo was killed in an 18-wheeler-related accident that occurred along Highway 287 in Claude, Texas.
The DPS reported that around 9:45 a.m., Rizzo was traveling westbound in a 2000 Ford F-150 flag vehicle escorting a Peterbilt truck tractor towing an oversize load (a 2016 Aspen heavy equipment semi-trailer), driven by 30-year-old Christopher Ellis.
Rizzo and Ellis were both parked in the westbound left turning lane on 287 and outside inspecting their load when 23-year-old Michael Hart—who was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan—rear-ended the Ford, sending it forward into Rizzo.
The impact claimed the life of Rizzo at the scene.
After the initial collision, both the Honda and the Ford caught fire.
Hart and his 23-year-old passenger, Tayla Hart, were transported to a nearby area hospital for treatment of injuries. Ellis did not sustain injuries.
This accident remains under investigation.
