Denton / Sherman, Texas — 25-year-old Ryan Hensley Hay, of Pilot Point, was killed Tuesday morning (12/03/2013) when his motorcycle was truck by another vehicle.
Ryan Hay was riding his black 2008 Honda motorcycle down North Locust Street shortly after 9 a.m., when he was struck by a gold-colored 2008 Dodge pickup truck. According to police, the truck driver was traveling on Milam Road, stopped an at the Locust Street stop sign, but pulled out into the path of Ryan Hay’s motorcycle. Mr. Hay had no stop sign, and had the right of way. Ryan Hensley Hay was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center, but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The pickup truck driver (who was not named) told responding police that he didn’t see the motorcyclist due to fog. The report did not specify if charges have been filed against the driver, or if he will be charged. In my opinion, even if he isn’t held criminally responsible, it seems clear from the report that he is civilly liable for Ryan Hay’s death.
This is, unfortunately, the third traffic fatality in Denton since Thanksgiving. It’s also the 2nd fatal motorcycle accident in Denton that I’ve personally reported on in one month’s time.
