MOODY, TX (10/21/2016) — A wrong way accident on Friday afternoon claimed the lives of Michael Brenegar, Samantha Hall, and James Corliss Jr.
Authorities have identified 41-year-old Michael Brenegar (of McGregor), 29-year-old Samantha Hall, and 30-year-old James Corliss Jr. (both of Belton) as the victims of a fatal car accident that occurred on FM 107 in Moody, Texas.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sgt. D.L. Wilson stated that at around 3:15 p.m., James Corliss Jr. was traveling eastbound in a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe when he lost control of his vehicle, veered into westbound traffic, and collided with a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Brenegar.
Corliss and his passenger, Hall, died at the scene. Brenegar was transported to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple, where he died the next day at 12:23 p.m.
This accident remains under investigation.
Wilson said that skid marks at the accident scene indicate that the Tahoe’s brakes locked up prior to the collision, but police are unsure at this time what catalyst caused the driver to veer into oncoming traffic. They have not cited alcohol or weather as possible factors, which could mean that a roadway obstruction, blowout, or driver error lead to the car wreck.
