The driver of a Richardson Independent School District (RISD) school bus has been hospitalized following an accident in the eastbound HOV lane of Interstate 635 this morning (10/04/2013). Officials have not released the bus driver’s condition or identity.
The bus was en route to pick up elementary school students, and luckily had no children passengers on board at the time of the collision. The crash caused the front of the school bus to extend over the median and into the westbound lanes, snarling traffic for hours on LBJ both ways near Miller Rd. Another school bus was dispatched in order to transport the waiting children.
Dallas County Schools said that they will be on-site to perform an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Injury claims involving school bus crashes can be incredibly complex, as public schools are often more difficult (if not impossible) to sue due to sovereign immunity laws & restrictions. If you have a personal injury claim relating to a school bus accident, YOU MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY! There is often a very short window for you to be eligible to file a claim, and ever municipality is different. You need an attorney experienced in the Texas Tort Claims Act (TTCA) in order to have a fair chance at recovering the compensation you need. Your first step should be to get medical assistance for your injuries – your next step should be to call a lawyer.
