72-year-old Ariel Dominguez was in his electric wheelchair when he was hit by a red carat the corner of Fitzhugh and Manet Street. Dominguqez was on his way to visit his sister when he stopped off on the side of the street to call her. A red four-door sedan was driving nearby and smacked Dominguez wheelchair as it sped down the street. The impact knocked Dominguez out of his chair and onto the ground. The old man was left with minor injuries including a gash to his head and a swollen eye.
The driver didn’t even stop. The whole accident was caught on tape. Police are currently looking for the culprit. The accident occurred on Thursday around 4:30 pm. If anyone has any information regarding the incident, please give the police a call.
Dominguez’s granddaughter Cindi Reyna had this to say about the incident, “I don’t know how people can be so heartless. It does hurt me a lot that someone didn’t stop to at least see if he’s okay. So, I hope if they see this they come forward and take responsibility.”
A similar incident last week shows that this may be the beginning of a terrible trend. Last week an elderly man’s scooter was struck in a hit-and-run in Arlington.
