** UPDATE ** Per WFAA News, Rafael Valdovinos has passed away from his injuries. Our hearts go out to his family. **
In another tragic and infuriating hit and run accident this week, Yolanda Guzman was killed by the driver of a pickup truck who didn’t bother to stop. Her husband has been hospitalized at Baylor in serious condition.
The accident occurred Wednesday around 8 pm at the intersection of Ferguson Road and Joaquin Drive. A person driving what is described as a “silver or white pickup truck with a brush guard” struck the couple and fled the scene. By the time emergency workers arrived around 8:12 Yolanda, a mother of two young children, had passed away. Her husband, Rafael Valdovinos, was rushed to the hospital.
What makes this wreck even more tragic is that the traffic signal was out at the intersection. Witnesses said they had reported the stop light malfunction a couple hours earlier, but by the time a technician could get to the scene the accident had already occurred. While an investigation into that matter is still under way, it pales in comparison to apprehending the driver who refused to stop and render aid after hitting this Dallas couple.
Owning up to seriously injuring or killing a person in a car accident can be a difficult thing to do – there’s no doubt about that. But Dallas accident attorney Jeff Rasansky knows there is a courageous distinction to be made between what is easy and what is right. Along with the rest of his team at Rasansky Law, he encourages the driver to turn himself in. It’s simply the right thing to do.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Yolanda Guzman and Rafael Valdovinos. We can’t imagine what they must be going through.
Drive safely, Dallas.
