DALLAS, TX (03/23/2014) — Multiple people hospitalized following major accident on Ledbetter Drive in southwest Dallas (south Oak Cliff) Sunday evening.
While few details were initially released about the 8:30 p.m. accident, it was reported that at least five ambulances were called to the scene of the accident to transport at least three victims to area hospitals (Methodist Dallas Medical Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center). It’s now been reported that one child was killed, another child is in critical condition, and the children’s father (Rafael Arellano) also remains hospitalized in serious condition.
The collision occurred in the 1100 block of West Ledbetter Drive at South Polk Street, and police say it was caused by 37-year-old Christopher Bynum. Police allege that Bynum was speeding in a Dodge Charger when he struck the rear of a Dodge Neon at a high rate of speed. The collision reportedly pushed the rear of the neon all the way into the cab.
According to police, Bynum admitted that he had been smoking PCP and marijuana (both found in his vehicle). Police arrested Bynum and charged him with one count of intoxication manslaughter, three counts of intoxication assault, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
