GARLAND, TX (08/23/2015) — One 15-year-old teen died, and two other boys were injured, after a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
According to Garland police, 15-year-old Angel Blancas was killed, and two other teenage boys were injured, after a single-vehicle crash on Sunday at the intersection of West Walnut Street and Jupiter Road in Garland, Texas. Authorities believe that speed and alcohol were factors in this fatal accident.
Authorities state that at around 5:30 a.m., a speeding white-colored Cadillac sedan lost control, hit a curb, went airborne, and struck a utility pole. None of the boys in the vehicle were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
At this time, it is unclear who was driving the vehicle.
According to police, Blancas was transported to Medical Center of Plano, where he later died. Blancas would have started his freshman year at Garland High School on Monday.
“That level is something no one expected. You are going to the first day of school, your first day of high school and you expect everyone and accept this. And learning about this and working through this is something that no one thought they would have to work through,” said Chris Moore with Garland ISD.
The two 14-year-old occupants who survived the crash were both hospitalized with serious injuries. One of the boys is a student at Jackson Middle school; the other boy is not enrolled in the Garland ISD school district.
Police are currently investigating this crash.
