Dallas is receiving much needed rain today (could do without the cold weather though), and the darkened skies and standing water are causing some headaches for commuters.
If you follow Chip Waggoner’s Twitter feed, you can see live updates of traffic conditions in our city. A quick skim of this morning’s posts reveals how Texas reacts to heavy rains – with car accidents. From traffic signals going black to six mile back-ups, this city is clearly not used to the torrent of rain it’s receiving.
In Uptown, where car accident lawyer Jeff Rasansky’s firm is located, the downpour has caused minor flooding in the streets. Valleys in roadways aggregate water easily eighteen inches high – which can cause engines in low-riding vehicles to stall. Thankfully, we haven’t lost power (yet).
Give yourself extra time on the road today. Drive slowly, watch for standing water (which can cause cars to slide), and add extra space between yourself and the vehicle in front in case it stops suddenly. And as always – drive safely, Dallas.
