TYLER, TX (06/07/2016) — A Con-way Freight employee, Steven Richter, was killed after his 18-wheeler was involved in an accident on Tuesday morning.
Authorities identified 55-year-old Steven Wayne Richter as the victim of a fatal 18-wheeler accident that occurred along Highway 31 near Spur 364 in Tyler, Texas.
Tyler Police Officer Don Martin stated that shortly before 5:00 a.m., the driver of an 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on TX-31 when he attempted to make a U-turn at or near Spur 364. As the truck driver crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic, it collided with another 18-wheeler, driven by Richter.
The impact caused Richter’s vehicle to jackknife into the grassy median, where it caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver was taken to a nearby area hospital with minor injuries.
This accident remains under investigation.
Commentary
Since the driver who caused this truck accident appears to have failed to ensure the roadway was clear before they attempted the U-turn, he or she will most-likely face criminal charges for this wreck (in addition to any civil claims filed by the victim’s family) once the investigation is complete. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
