BAIRD, TX (09/25/2015) — A two-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler killed four men: George Earl Nowlain, Fernando Ramirez, Joel Ortega-Flores, and Joel Flores Jr.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), an 18-wheeler truck accident claimed the lives of four men late Thursday night/ early Friday morning: 24-year-old Joel Flores Jr., 71-year-old George Earl Nowlain, 48-year-old Fernando Ramirez, 51-year-old Joel Ortega-Flores. This fatal wreck occurred in at the intersection of U.S. 283 and Texas 36 in Baird, Texas at around 12:05 a.m.
DPS Troopers reported that a 2003 Dodge pickup truck, driven by Flores, failed to stop at an intersection and broadsided a 2005 Freightliner truck tractor towing a trailer (18-wheeler), driven by Nowlain. Nowlain (of Valley Mills, TX) was traveling heading westbound on TX 36, and Flores (of Anaheim, CA) was headed southbound on US 283 prior to the crash. The posted speed limit in the area was 75 miles per hour.
Nowlain, Flores, and Ramirez all lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
Ortega-Flores was transported to a nearby area hospital, where he later died.
