A teenager lost his life over the Fourth of July holiday in Fort Worth. The 17-year-old teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report in the Star-Telegram. The driver struck a pickup and ended up hitting a pillar. The accident occurred at 2 PM on the 11,200 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard West, according to the report.
Unfortunately, traffic deaths go up every year during the Fourth of July holiday. The Fourth of July holiday, in fact, is one of the deadliest of the year for traffic accidents. This may seem surprising, considering that winter holidays mean that people are driving in darker conditions and in sometimes dangerous weather conditions but, even though that is the case, the Fourth of July is particularly deadly.
Why Are Holidays Dangerous?
During holidays, there are many factors that play into conditions being more dangerous for drivers. First and foremost, a lot of people have driven to visit family and friends in areas with which they are not fully familiar. This means that they are more likely to end up becoming stressed due to being lost and, if they get too impatient, they may take rash actions, causing traffic crashes.
Of course, the holidays also mean that people tend to have a few too many drinks sometimes and that is a major contributor to the characteristic danger of holidays. The Fourth of July holiday is particularly notorious for this, since many families are cooking out, having drinks while they are watching the fireworks and otherwise occasionally having a bit too much of a good time.
All of the celebrating that people do over holidays is quite natural, a lot of fun and provides a valuable way to blow off steam for a lot of people. The only time it’s a problem is when it leads to people being irresponsible on the road. Whether they are stressed out from holiday traffic and start driving too aggressively or have had too many drinks and should’ve never got behind the wheel at all, drivers are responsible for what they do on the road ways.
If you were injured over the holiday and you believe that the other driver was negligent, consider contacting a Fort Worth accident lawyer. In some cases, these lawyers may be able to help you by putting together a lawsuit to get damages from the other driver. This could be the difference between being able to pay medical bills and bankruptcy for some victims.
