Cleburne, Texas — 61-year old grandmother Terri Shelby has been hospitalized in critical condition following an automobile-vs-pedestrian accident in Cleburne, TX on Halloween night (10/31/2013).
Terri Shelby had reportedly participated in some Halloween festivities at Nolan River Mall that evening, and was walking back to the car with her daughter and 3-year-old grandson when she was struck by a vehicle on a dimly-lit area of North Nolan River Rd.
Witnesses call Ms. Shelby a hero, saying she pushed her grandson out of the way of the oncoming Honda Pilot and took the biggest impact. Because of her actions, the child suffered only minor injuries. Unfortunately, Terri Shelby had to be airlifted to a local hospital, and is now in the ICU in critical condition. Shelby’s daughter was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
There are conflicting reports on whether the driver of the vehicle stopped right away, or was forced to stop by a group of church members who witnessed the event, but police say they are treating the case as an accident, and say charges against the driver are unlikely at this point.
