AMARILLO, TX (12/26/2016) — An auto-pedestrian accident on Monday morning claimed the life Theresa Rider.
According to the Amarillo Police Department (APD), 66-year-old Theresa Pohlmeier Rider was killed in a car-vs-pedestrian accident that occurred at 4900 S. Coulter Street in Amarillo, Texas.
The APD reported that at around 10:30 a.m., an 84-year-old male was exiting from a Lowe’s parking lot (in a GMC Sierra) northbound onto Coulter Street when his vehicle struck Rider as she and her husband were using the crosswalk. The elderly driver told police he did not see Rider crossing the street.
Rider was transported to a nearby area hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
An investigation is underway.
Commentary
Police have not yet filed charges against the at-fault driver, since an investigation is pending. However, since this driver did fail to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, he could be held criminally (and civilly) liable for this incident. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
