IRVING, TX (07/26/2015) — Three firefighters were injured when their fire truck was rear-ended at an accident site on Highway 183 early Sunday morning.
According to Irving police, three firefighters were injured after an 18-wheeler rear-ended their fire truck in the 2600 block of Highway 183 in Irving, Texas.
Irving firefighters were blocking an eastbound lane on Highway 183 at around 3:15 a.m. while they were working on a single vehicle crash.
According to Officer Stephen Burres, the fire truck’s emergency lights were on when 55-year-old Ilian Lalev rear-ended the fire truck, causing it to rollover. Three firefighters were injured in the wreckage.
One of the firefighters suffered a concussion, and the other two suffered minor cuts and bruises. They were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas for treatment.
As of 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, two of the firefighters have been released and one is staying overnight for observation.
According to Burres, Lalev was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
This crash remains under investigation.
