A 19-year-old woman from Tyler died after a two-vehicle wreck that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Smith County.
Tuesday afternoon, State Troopers responded to a fatal wreck on TX-64 East, about 1.5 miles east of Tyler. According to the DPS, the crash investigation shows that 19-year-old, Kristen Darius Lilly and her passenger, 19-year-old Tia Shay Roland were traveling eastbound in a 2003 Ford Mustang. At the same time, 31-year-old Maria Torres and her 3-year-old passenger were headed westbound in a 2013 Ford Flex.
For an unknown reason, Lilly lost control of the Mustang and went into a side skid entering the westbound lane of traffic and crashed into the Ford Flex.
Tia Shay Roland, of Tyler suffered serious injuries and was transported to UT-Health Tyler where she later died. Lilly, of Carthage, was also transported to UT-Health Tyler in critical condition, according to DPS.
Torres and her 3-year-old passenger were taken to Christus Mother Frances Hospital-Tyler in stable condition. The child was treated and released.
According to DPS, the crash remains under investigation.
