HOUSTON, TX (05/22/2016) — Troy McNeil died following a car accident involving a suspected drunk driver on Sunday morning.
Houston police identified 43-year-old Troy McNeil as the victim of a fatal multi-vehicle accident that occurred along Gulf Freeway in Houston, Texas.
Authorities reported that at around 2:30 a.m., McNeil, along with three other passengers, were traveling southbound in a Dodge Durango when they were sideswiped by a car near Bay Area Boulevard. The impact forced the Durango to turn sideways in the road, and a second vehicle collided.
After the second crash, McNeil exited the vehicle to assess the damage and take pictures of the scene. As McNeil was surveying the accident, an alleged drunk driver struck him.
Officials stated that McNeil lost his life at the scene.
“We got hit twice. I lost my love,” said JR Guarjardo, who was McNeil’s long-time boyfriend and passenger at the time of the wreck.
The driver who struck McNeil was arrested for a DWI, and may face additional charges.
According to officers, the street lights were not lit in that area, making it extremely hard to see anything—especially at night.
This accident remains under investigation.
Commentary
Details are limited at this time, however, we suspect that the drunk driver could face additional charges of intoxication manslaughter for causing this man’s death. Of course this is all up to police, and the investigation is currently ongoing. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
