MESQUITE, TX (06/18/2015) — Five people were left injured and hospitalized after two multi-vehicle pileups on I-20 near FM 740 on Thursday night in Mesquite, Texas.
According to the Mesquite Police Department, two people were left injured following a three-vehicle crash, involving two 18-wheelers, on Interstate 20 near FM 740 on Thursday night in Mesquite, Texas.
Police stated that around 9:00 p.m. a woman traveling eastbound on I-20 in a Ford Crown Victoria crossed the grassy highway median into westbound traffic; she struck an 18-wheeler head-on. The initial collision caused the 18-wheeler to crash into a secondary 18-wheeler.
The female driver of the Crown Victoria and her male passenger were trapped in the wreckage. The two were extricated and transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas in serious condition. The drivers of both 18-wheelers were uninjured in the crash.
The initial pileup caused another crash in the backup at around 11:00 p.m. that night. According to Talty Police Department Chief Mike Hoskins, the secondary wreck occurred when one vehicle struck another vehicle, forcing it strike a third vehicle. This accident left three people hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, both accidents are under investigation.
