KATY, TX (06/19/2016) — An intoxicated driver caused an accident that cost a husband and wife their lives, and injured four children on Sunday night.
Authorities with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal accident that happened on FM 529 near Peek Road in Katy, Texas that killed a husband and wife and injured four children.
Police responded to the two-vehicle wreck at around 7:00 p.m. and found that the driver of a tan pickup truck had collided with a red pickup truck.
“There was a pickup truck headed eastbound on FM 529 that went left of center, collided with the pickup truck that was going westbound and spun the truck around. That truck went into the ditch killing the two parties in front, the adults in the vehicle,” said Sgt. Mike Harvey with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The male and female front seat occupants of the red pickup truck—said to be husband and wife—died upon impact. A boy and girl in the backseat were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
The two children of the tan pickup truck were taken to Texas Children’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
At this time, officials believe the driver of the tan pickup truck was intoxicated.
“This is obviously tougher than most. It’s Father’s Day and Father’s Day is suppose to be a celebration and this one has turned into a tragedy,” said Sgt. Harvey.
An investigation is ongoing.
