JEAN, TX (11/14/2016) — A wrong way accident on Texas 114 early Monday morning claimed the life of William Stephens.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 31-year-old William Stephens (of Olney) was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 114 just outside of Jean, Texas.
The DPS reported that at around 5:40 a.m., 33-year-old Jose Flores was traveling westbound in a Ford F-250 when he swerved to allegedly avoid hitting a deer. The maneuver caused him to lose control of his vehicle and collide head-on with an eastbound Kia passenger vehicle, driven by Stephens.
Stephens did not survive the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
Police cited that weather conditions were foggy and misty, which makes the possibility of accidents more likely. Of course when driving in inclement weather, drivers need to reduce their speed and take extra caution. We hope that a full investigation will provide more answers, and we offer our condolences to those affected by this tragic crash.
