A woman who tried to drive around railway cross arms is in the hospital after her actions led to a collision with the DART Green Line.
According to WFAA, the accident happened earlier this afternoon (around 1 p.m. CST) between the Farmer’s Branch and Downtown Carrollton Stations. The injured lady’s vehicle was mangled up to the extent that rescue workers had to cut it open to assist her. Several DART passengers were injured – although none as badly as the car driver.
There hasn’t been a statement as to why the driver tried to beat the train across the tracks – in fact, she may have thought the cross arms were malfunctioning and that there wasn’t any train at all. The personal injury attorneys at Jeff’s office have all had their share of frustrating commutes where the cross arms are down – but as the minutes tick by, no train appears. It’s possible that’s what happened here.
Thankfully, it seems everyone will go home alive. It could have been much worse. As a monthly-pass holder of DART, I know how fast those SLRV’s go – especially on the Green Line, which I’ve personally ridden at speeds that rival those posted on national highways. It’s not something to toy with.
Drive safely, Dallas.
