MONTALBA, TX (08/07/2015) — One woman was killed, and one man was seriously injured, following a Friday morning wrong way crash on Texas 19.
Authorities state that Deborah Kinabrew was killed, and Joshua Haynes was seriously injured, in a wrong way crash on Texas 19 near Athens, Texas on Friday morning.
According to reports, Kinabrew was traveling northbound on Highway 19 (towards Athens) in a red Ford Focus when she crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Haynes.
Deborah Kinabrew, of Palestine, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace James Sharp (JP Precinct 4).
Authorities state that after the initial collision, the Jeep caught fire, trapping both Joshua Haynes and his passenger, Moriah Haynes (both of Montalba). According to DPS Trooper Leonard Sandifer, EMS paramedics were able to put out the flames in order to rescue the two trapped occupants of the Jeep.
Josh Haynes suffered several broken bones and severe injuries to his right leg, and was transported to the Palestine Regional Medical Center for treatment. Moriah was reportedly uninjured, and rode along with Haynes to the hospital.
Trooper Sandifer stated that police are investigating what caused Kinabrew’s vehicle to cross the center line into wrong way traffic.
