SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (06/26/2015) — 61-year-old Malinda Pond was killed in a wrong way crash that also injured William Pond, Brent Silvers, Sierra Muse, and Bryan Spurgeon.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Malinda Pond, 61, was killed on Friday night following a two-vehicle accident along U.S. 96 near San Augustine, Texas.
Troopers stated that 53-year-old Bryan Spurgeon was traveling northbound on U.S. 96 in a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he swerved into southbound traffic striking a 2015 Honda Pilot driven by 61-year-old William Pond shortly before 8:00 p.m.
Malinda Pond—who was a front seat passenger in the Pilot—was pronounced dead at the scene by San Augustine County Justice of the Peace J.D. Miller.
William Pond was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas for treatment; he has been listed in stable condition.
According to authorities, there were also two children in the Honda Pilot; Brent Silvers, 11, and Sierra Muse, 12 (both of Indianapolis, Indiana). Silvers was treated and released at a San Augustine hospital. Muse was listed in stable condition at the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA.
Spurgeon was treated and released at a San Augustine hospital.
Police have not stated if any criminal charges will filed against Spurgeon for this fatal crash.
