PORT ARTHUR, TX (12/12/2015) — A suspected drunk driver caused a fatal rollover accident that claimed the life of Fernando Sanchez-Garcia on Saturday night.
Port Arthur police have identified 19-year-old Fernando Sanchez-Garcia as the victim of a fatal, single-vehicle accident that occurred in the 3600 hundred block of Highway 73 near 9th Avenue in Port Arthur, Texas.
Police reported that 18-year-old Francisco Moreno was driving a pickup truck at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to exit the highway, causing it to flip several times.
Neither teenager was wearing a seat belt, and both were ejected. However, the truck came to a rest on top of Sanchez-Garcia.
Sanchez-Garcia died as he was being transported to Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
Police stated that Moreno was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials believe that alcohol was a factor in this fatal wreck.
