Gia Randazzo and several other residents and neighbors came to the aid of an accident victim Sunday morning – pulling the injured man from his burning car. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and he passed away.
40-year-old Robert Lopez wasn’t wearing a seat belt when he lost control of his Mercedes CLS550 and crashed into the foundation of a small home off Katy Road in Keller. Investigators believe he was speeding through the narrow pass at 90 mph. The speed limit is 30.
As WFAA reports, residents like Gia heard the impact from blocks away and came running. Setting aside their personal safety, Gia’s friends pulled Lopez from his vehicle moments before it erupted in flames. Cell phone footage taken by neighbors show how devastating the fire grew.
Fort Worth car accident attorney Jeff Rasansky has great respect for those who step up in a time of need to take care of those who are in danger. In March, Fort Worth residents rescued another man from a burning SUV, saving his life. Even though they were unable to ultimately save Robert Lopez, Gia Randazzo and her friends are being added to Jeff Rasansky’s hall of fame for DFW citizens taking care of their community.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Robert Lopez. Drive safely, Dallas.
